Elizabeth Teo

Counsellor, Facilitator, Trainer, Retreat Master

Elizabeth the Counsellor/ Therapist

Elizabeth’s is a survivor of complex trauma. Because of her trauma, she developed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and severe depression. This led to chronic self-harm, suicide attempts and severe weight loss. Thus, she has experienced first-hand what going through mental illness feels like and struggled for years to recover. She understands the anxiety associated with seeking therapy and the frustration of seeming to move two steps forward one step back and wanting to give up hope.

However, this experience motivated Elizabeth to becoming a therapist herself to help others like her. She is a unique therapist who is often able to empathise with what her clients are going through because she has gone through similar experiences herself.

Although Elizabeth has a special interest in trauma, she has worked with clients of all ages, on a range of issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, relationship problems, school and work-related problems.

Elizabeth the Trainer/ Facilitator

Elizabeth started her career as a General Paper teacher. She created safe spaces in and out of class for students to share their struggles and life stories. Classrooms became little havens, where students could be authentic and not feel judged. Out of class, she journeyed individually with students and helped them believe in themselves again.

In 2013, she became the school's Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) Mentor and started writing a curriculum based on creating safe spaces for the sharing of personal narratives to effect deep personal and social change. She also trained other teachers to do the same. Wanting to share these skills with the broader community, she left teaching in 2014 and started working as a freelance facilitator.

Elizabeth facilitates dialogues surrounding sensitive issues such as race, religion, diversity, sexual violence and mental health, creating safe spaces for authentic dialogue and community building. She is also an Emotional Intelligence (EQ) trainer and Assessor with ©6Seconds (USA). She runs workshops focused on helping people be emotionally intelligent, develop life skills, personal mastery, self-esteem and personal growth.

Elizabeth also runs workshops to train others how to design and facilitate safe spaces for authentic dialogue.

Elizabeth the Retreat Master

She is a Catholic and has a Diploma in Adult Faith Formation from the then Singapore Pastoral Institute. She strongly believes in helping people encounter God in their lives and discover how they are personally called to live out their faith in their lives.

Elizabeth strongly believes that faith and religion is a strong resource in helping people navigate the complexities and problems or everyday life. She also believes that a spiritual growth and personal growth must go hand in hand and can complement each other. Although she is Catholic, she has had the privilege of working with other faith communities, such as Buddhist and Muslim communities, to facilitate personal development workshops from a faith-based perspective.
